Today it is a sad day. Due to financial trouble from trading losses, I have interrupted my automated system trading, AND testing. I would guess that most flat earthers have been investigating conspiracy theories for already 5 years.

Why would this activity make us mentally unstable?

Maybe because it's done on the internet? Or because of the subject we are studying?

Or could it be that only unstable people get into conspiracy theories?

If I had to judge from the outside, given my limited knowledge, the people at TFES seem to be the most healthy ones, but also the most superficial ones.

Everyone else I have met, whether at IFERS or here, seems... or rather, the average person at these last two forums seems to be the opposite of superficial but also the opposite of mentally stable.

At TFES I got ridiculed, so I got frustrated and was glad to leave that place for IFERS.

At IFERS, after one month of enthusiasm, I was suddenly attacked and kicked out.

That was more than frustration, it was a burning offense.

So I came here, more unstable than ever, after having been ridiculed at TFES and heavily insulted at IFERS.

Here, too, there are people who spend their day posting their reasoning.

It is fascinating to see them do that, which is the same as I am doing.

And I am not saying they are mentally unhealthy for this reason. Because I would be saying it about myself, too.

I am however saying that they have displayed mental instability by their emotional outbursts. Many people here and there at IFERS.

Emotional instability can be, and is almost always contagious, like a series of balls on a pool table, bouncing off each other. You might not move as much as the person moving first. But he will set you into motion.

Right, I want to remain stable and to lead a healthy life. Can I do so while investigating conspiracy theories and especially flat earth?

I don't know. It would certainly be easier to study German. I was totally stable and had a healthy sleeping routine while I was studying German.

So why am I not reverting back to my old habits?

Maybe for the same reason the other conspiracy theorists aren't: we're "down the rabbit hole" don't want to come out, because these things are not as crazy as the world outside thinks.

They are interesting, much more interesting and even useful than anything you can watch on TV.

Useful: for example by studying alternative sources in medicine, I have learned that a vegan diet is more healthy than the other diets. This is useful, in that it adds years to your life.

I can't go back to being a regular human, who goes out with his friends, smokes, eats a pizza, and says something stupid. That to me is a waste of time, money and health.

So, there is no choice but to continue. Because I am hungry for this knowledge.

But how do I find a way to continue this research without destroying my mental and physical health?

This advice could also be useful to the people at IFERS, who have lost their mental balance even more than me.

The problem is that I don't have advice: this research is so engrossing that it keeps you up at night.

I don't have any advice other than this: spending less time online. The thing is that, even if we were healthy to begin with, you cannot remain healthy/balanced after spending most of your day interacting with other frustrated and/or angry people.

The question remains how you can manage to reduce your hours online by 75%, lose whatever addiction you have developed, without having to eliminate this activity completely.

Maybe that is what lead me to get into an argument with the administrator. It was for a good cause, because I believed in what I was saying, but deep inside I exaggerated it because I was trying to break free from this addiction.

The 3 main people at IFERS (the hardcore fans, who replaced us) are probably also addicted, and they will keep on going until the forum ends or until they will find a way to get themselves kicked out.

Other people not just at IFERS but here, too, are addicted and this addiction is destroying their life. Addicted to arguing, addicted to attacking other people online... some have even lost track of their initial objective of learning.

It's not a matter of reducing our time on conspiracy theories, because they are not as addictive as this forum activity. It is a matter of losing the addiction to an online forum. Otherwise this addiction will stop you from cutting down on the hours you spend online.

Also, we should realize that we are not here only to learn and debate, but to provide one another with psychological support, because, as conspiracy theorists, we get no understanding in our daily lives. Most of us can't even bring up the subject of flat earth with anyone.

The lizard and george harrison say Tele should be banned, the administrator is online, but Tele does not get banned and is still posting regularly. The result of this addition is this: things are changing at IFERS. I think Eric has understood that he can't ban everyone who disagrees. Those two (lizard and george harrison) have probably asked him to ban Tele, but he hasn't done it for the first time. Things are changing at IFERS.

He probably realized that, despite membership steadily going up, traffic was not increasing at all, and in fact it has been decreasing since we were banned at the end of last month (it reached 1000 visitors per day, and now it is at 500 per day). He probably also realized that this is due to his intolerance of people disagreeing with him. So now he is less intolerant than his two hardcore fans, lizard and george harrison. We cannot exclude at this point that there will be a friction between his fans and Eric, and that they'll end up being banned themselves, just as Robespierre ended up being decapitated himself. In that case, I hope they'll join us in our fight for freedom of speech and mutual respect, because by then they will have understood this concept. But probably Eric is understanding it, too. His own forum is forcing him to understand this concept.

He may be able to evolve into a tolerant and respectful person, and at that point, all that will be left for him to do will be to apologize to all the people he offended, which, as far as his IFERS experience goes, are probably above 50. I am talking about a majority of well-meaning fans who helped him with his forum (through thoughtful posting on it and promotion of it) and who one day were banned because they disagreed on something.

This is a major development, in that not only does he not ban a user who is attacking George and Lizard but he even clicks "like" on a post by someone who is in fact attacking their own internal ruling class (George and the lizard). You know what this means? Just as we were banned at the end of March, shortly after the arrival of George and the lizard, and their attacks on us, this could very well mean a more advanced ruling class of historical revisionists is about to take over the forum and replace George and the lizard. Maybe they will find a way to coexist, or maybe not.

The fact is that Tele seems there to stay. At the moment, everywhere on the forum, the administrator Eric is clicking "like" on posts by both factions (lizard and George vs. the new ones). There was a short period, of two days, when he was doing the same things with us, until he banned us. So maybe this means that a changing of the guard is about to take place on that forum. Maybe, just as we lasted one month, also George and the lizard will last one month. Maybe the Reign of Terror at IFERS is about to end with the beheading of George and the lizard, and there will be a new period where debate will be encouraged, at least among historical revisionists.

There seems to be a fierce fight that this time is not being "solved" by the administrator banning either team, as was the case with us. Maybe he will let them all stay as members, and keep arguing, or maybe he will even ban his soon-to-be former fans, George and the lizard.

In which case, we welcome them here in advance, for our fight in the name of free speech and mutual respect only requires that our members abide by the rules of free speech and mutual respect. So, of course, they will have to adapt to new rules.

Anyway, I can't follow this IFERS thing forever, so I will follow matters at IFERS, probably, only until George Harrison and the lizard will either be banned or delete their accounts. Then I will consider the Reign of Terror cycle ended, and be satisfied with the chronicling of events there.

These two people are posting so frequently that they will want to end their experience one way or another (by deleting their accounts), or will lose their mental balance so much that they end up being banned, or will even be banned for being themselves while the forum is changing and becoming more tolerant... I predict that they will not last longer than another month.

This forum of ours is not mine so it can last and prosper even after I am gone (or banned, who knows). I predict that, as the forum is being abandoned, I will post less frequently, and probably will get down to the rate of one post per day, most likely here on my journal. I may even add some humor to my posts, since they are only on my journal anyway. I am glad there is no humor on IFERS and little humor here, unlike the excessive joking they have at TFES forums. On the other hand, they are the mentally stable ones. So, maybe for your mental balance, it is better to not investigate conspiracy theories and just spend your day making jokes. Truthers are maniacs and sheeple are mentally healthy, but idiots.

I don't know... it's hard to find a balance as a flat earther, because you can't really talk to others around you about it, so you feel the need for a forum, but then on it you meet just a bunch of other maniacs like you, and so how does that help? We'll see how things will evolve. Unexpectedly, the forum has not died (yet). Maybe it pays off to be nice to people. Some people came back, some new people joined.

The two main tools to get people to join are... actually three (but we're not exploiting the third one very well), in a descending order from most effective:

1) TFES two forums: I go there, see new members being ridiculed, and write them a private message saying "join us: we will respect you and take you seriously"
2) Facebook: posting our forum on related Groups, and then inviting those who click "like" to join us. That is so easy and so effective. Usually I write them that we are desperate for new members.
3) IFERS banned users: great source of traffic at the start, but they're not coming anymore, because I am not in touch at all with those who are getting banned now, whereas I knew all the early IFERS members and they all came here after being banned. That is why we should pay for those ads on IFERS, but I don't want to use my name so I am waiting for others to do it. If we had done this, by now we'd have 100 members here.
