The most famous ancient source for this continent located in the western ocean is a book by Plato entitled "Timaeus" in which Plato records a discourse of a friend named Timaeus who talks about this continent in the west. This is not by any means the only ancient book which discusses this, but it is significant and a major source for some later histories which do mention it such as the 'History of Babylon' by Berossus who discusses ten kings who reigned there before the flood of whom one was Atlas if I remember correctly (as its been years since I've read Berossus's little book). It's also mentioned by Hanno the Navigator who circumnavigated Africa before Plato was born. Such large continents like this and another continent called "Hyperborea" by the ancient Greeks are also discussed by the sixth century A.D. Christian flat earth geographer and mariner Cosmas Indicopleustes.
I'd like to dispel the myth that this continent allegedly lies between South America and Africa in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. This is a modern fabrication, and it could be beneficial to trace the origin and history of this falsehood. The simple fact is that the flood which overwhelmed Atlantis mentioned by Timaeus was the deluge of Noah which likewise flooded the entire world, and virtually every country has a similar indigenous history of Noah's flood.
South America is Atlantis, and histories like those recorded by Plato and Berossus are testimony that Noah's flood overwhelmed and covered "South America" just like the rest of the world. These histories prove that ancients such as Plato had knowledge of South America.
The false interpretation placing its location in the middle of the Atlantic is an old wive's tale and fabrication of recent centuries deliberately created to mislead searchers for truth. I have not researched the history of this false interpretation, but I suspect its timeline parallels similar myths of recent centuries such as continental drift.
