THE MODERN CALENDAR IS MISSING EIGHT YEARS SINCE BIRTH OF THE CHRIST
According to the Septuagint reckoning, the world was created 7524 years ago and the current year since the birth of the Christ is 2023 - not 2015.
The consensus among Byzantine historians is that Christ was born 5500 years after the creation of the world, but most references nowadays such as wikipedia's article on the Byzantine Calendar claim that the traditional Byzantine Calendar dated Christ's birth 5508 years after the creation of the world.
Wherefore the difference of 8 years?
It recently came to my attention that when Czar Peter the Great westernized Russia, he made a decree in the year 1708 that set the Russian calendar back 8 years to 1700. The Patriarchate of Constantinple and the Orthodox Church evidently did the same thing a few years later in 1728 in order to conform to the western calendar. The Russian Old Believers (Old Rite Orthodox Christians) still retain the old Russian calendar. If this the old eastern Christian calendar was correct as I believe it is, then the west likely changed its dating by 8 years at some point in the past.
Here are a few of the references I have located regarding this issue:
"Now it's the 7522th year since the world was created. Or the year 2022 since the birth of Christ, 8 years disappeared off the record. Christians are still entertaining their freedom, but we are approaching the time when they will be brutally tortured."

"Another significant moment: on the road from Florence to Moscow, Isidore sent out letters with the message of union with Latins, and this message was the first time that Russian history was dated back to the year 5508 from the creation of the world as the basis of the Nativity, whereas before that the year of Christmas was always 5500, in strict accordance with the seventy of weeks of Daniel. And now the whole world is considered heretics by starting from the year 5508 from Adam. And this is a dogmatic heresy in favor of the same synagogue, because, if we assume that Christ was born 8 years later, he could not be crucified under Pontius Pilate, since Pilate was recalled to Rome already, and the magicians could not come under Herod, who would have died long ago, and other events described in the Gospel become historically untenable. Thus, this new heretical dating of the Nativity of Isus Christ is a continuation of the work of Rabbi Akiba to discredit the Gospel. In Russia, the final transition to the anti-Christian calendar took place in 1708 on the Incarnation of Christ - then Peter I wrote a decree that everyone should live again 8 years. And thus unified the calendar with Latin, Protestants and Uniates. Since then, we live - on a false chronology."

"The Byzantine World Era was gradually replaced in the Orthodox Church by the Christian Era, which was utilized initially by Patriarch Theophanes I Karykes in 1597, afterwards by Patriarch Cyril Lucaris in 1626, and then formally established by the Church in 1728."

"It must suffice to remind the reader that the 'Constantinopolitan' system
reckoned from the Creation of the World in 5508 B.C., but the 'New
Alexandrian' or 'Antiochene'—the more ancient and apparently the more common till the tenth century—from 5500 B.C. The latter was used by several prominent Byzantine historians."
