jayjay LionI am not sure what freeanergy's video wanted to prove. Does he imply that when you travel west of America you reach Asia, but if you continue you would reach another Asia eventually, and another America, and another Asia and so on? I really don't know what he was trying to show.

Ok good point, but in all seriousness, don't you think if there was a boundary to the north of us, that would be much easier slam dunk evidence other than promoting a pac-man effect from east to west?

I really don't know what he was trying to show. Well, it is difficult to imagine, but basically freeanergy is saying that the earth is Flat AND square with no "edge". However, traveling east to west simply continues...no end or edge...just a continuation. He calls it a "space loop". I do have to say, having the International Dateline surely does not discourage this thinking. |

Honestly, there are problems with both map models. Obviously it is not a globe because the oceans are flat surfaces of water with no detectable curve. Obviously the widely accepted flat earth map is also wrong, with distorted distances. It is just a projection from a globe, as was stated before. North American should not be that much smaller than South America, and Australia should not be anywhere near the length of Russia. Flat Earth needs to come up with a new map. I saw one today on youtube that looked more promising, though I didn't check it out long or research it yet. Supposedly it makes more sense with flight times.
I also saw another video where a guy had an interesting theory of an endless loop of existence, where you use a typical map you'd hang on a wall, and you hang another upside down above and below it, and endlessly in that fashion, also relaying it east/west, but not flipping it. So that we are essentially stuck in a constant loop of space, where the sun travels to the end of the map and then instantly appears at the other end again. Very strange idea, and yet I would say that it was worth entertaining except that it could never really be proven and ends any ideas of exploration South, as you would just pop out on a flipped side of the Antarctic "continent". That would be something the Globe people would say proves their model, though of course without curvature you can not have a globe.

You can see a bit of curvature even in a small container towards the edges caused by surface tension. It is a known effect called meniscus. Of course, it is reasonable to assume that the same thing happens in water basins like seas, oceans etc. This doesn't mean the Earth is a globe though, but some curvature is known to exist, and that is totally natural. |
