at the beginning when hubble was already launched, the optic proved not satisfying and the mirors had to be repolished. Though this is very difficult to achieve this on Earth, men, in their silky space suit, did it in space. LOL Deserve a gold medal.

There is no mystery that i can see. Hubble was a cock up that was solved by replacing smaller parts and sacrificing one of the detectors so that the warped image could be corrected by the addition of shaped mirrors and other methods.
Last week i mentioned an amateur who was taking fantastic pictures of systems using modest equipment. The objects had to be photographed many times as they rotated around the sky and then the pictures are combined into a single image to create a viewable brightness.
