I created this section to post my research on the history going from WWI to WWII, including the interwar period, through audiovisual recordings (radio, film, and early television).

I will start with history through music: Lili Marleen. Words written during world war I, music written in interwar period, it became a hit during world war II:

The words were written in 1915 during World War I by Hans Leip (1893–1983), a school teacher from Hamburg who had been conscripted into the Imperial German Army.[1] Leip reportedly combined the nickname of his friends girlfriend, Lili, with the first name of another female friend, Marleen, who was a nurse.[2][3] The poem was later published as "Das Lied eines jungen Soldaten auf der Wacht" ("The Song of a Young Soldier on Watch") in 1937, now with the two last (of five) verses added.

It was set to music by Norbert Schultze in 1938. It was recorded by Lale Andersen for the first time in 1939. In early 1942 she recorded the song in English, the lyrics translated by Norman Baillie-Stewart, a former a British army officer working for the German Auslandssendedienst.[4] Tommie Connor later wrote English lyrics with the title "Lily of the Lamplight " in 1944.

This "war song" was my introduction to a thread that will show the perspectives and events of all peoples involved in war. The "illumination" will consist of understanding how people think, how leaders think, and how to prevent more wars. It is a thread that will focus on conflict between people, to understand better its dynamics and how to prevent it.

Thank you, bahr56, for this opportunity you gave me to explain better the sense of this thread, and my own philosophy: pacifism, non-violence and an effort to avoid all unnecessary conflicts.

I realize you were afraid I was creating a thread to just post music videos of that period (which would be legitimate), but I am going to do something more important to me. I will post historical documents that explain us the psychology of those who lived in that period, from all sides. That's why I had started studying German in the first place.

Thanks a lot for explaining.
I am also a pacifist, I refused military service in my youth and had to serve in a museum instead (social service).
And a few month longer than Military service.

I also support the Quaker initiative for peace and subscribe to their magazine here in Norway.

After the sinking of the RMS Lusitania with many United States residents on board, on May 7, 1915, the United States ambassador's position became more difficult.[2]

The German government asked him to leave the country in January 1917. Diplomatic relations were broken off on February 3, and he left Germany. He was detained for a time because of rumours that the German ambassador in America was being mistreated and German ships had been confiscated. When these rumors were disproved, he was allowed to depart. He retired from diplomatic service entirely in July 1917.

During the first year of World War I, Göring served with his infantry regiment in the area of Mülhausen, a garrison town only a mile from the French frontier. He was hospitalized with rheumatism, a result of the damp of trench warfare. While he was recovering, his friend Bruno Loerzer convinced him to transfer to what would become, by October 1916, the Luftstreitkräfte ("air combat force") of the German army, but his request was turned down. Later that year, Göring flew as Loerzer's observer in Feldflieger Abteilung 25 (FFA 25) – Göring had informally transferred himself. He was discovered and sentenced to three weeks' confinement to barracks, but the sentence was never carried out. By the time it was supposed to be imposed, Göring's association with Loerzer had been made official. They were assigned as a team to FFA 25 in the Crown Prince's Fifth Army. They flew reconnaissance and bombing missions, for which the Crown Prince invested both Göring and Loerzer with the Iron Cross, first class.[11]

On 7 July 1918, following the death of Wilhelm Reinhard, successor to Manfred von Richthofen, Göring was made commander of the famed "Flying Circus", Jagdgeschwader 1.[16] His arrogance made him unpopular with the men of his squadron.[17]

In the last days of the war, Göring was repeatedly ordered to withdraw his squadron, first to Tellancourt airdrome, then to Darmstadt. At one point, he was ordered to surrender the aircraft to the Allies; he refused. Many of his pilots intentionally crash-landed their planes to keep them from falling into enemy hands.[18]

Like many other German veterans, Göring was a proponent of the Stab-in-the-back legend, the belief which held that the German Army had not really lost the war, but instead was betrayed by the civilian leadership: Marxists, Jews, and especially the Republicans, who had overthrown the German monarchy.[19]

The reason for WW2 is misunderstood because the victors always write the history. And the victors of WW2 where banking dynasties.

Germany in WW1 was funded almost exclusively by the Rothschild family. As were the allies. They funded both sides because 'war is a racket'. In fact they have funded both sides of every major war since the Napoleonic wars in the 1700s.

Anyhoo, once Germany lost WW1 the reperations they were made to may were the war loans from the Rothschild family. This was crippling Germany. Adolf Hitler was very popular politician and decided to rid Germany of her debt so the people could be prosperous. Germany was flat broke after WW1 and couldn't escape the debt. So Hitler instructed the Bank of Germany to hyper-inflate the currency. You will have seen Germans carrying their wages home in wheel barrows and burning money because it was work more in kindling than in cash. This inflated the debt away and meant the Rothschild's no longer could suck wealth from Germany. So the Rothschilds do what they did best and threatened Germany with another war, placed financial restrictions on them and tried to Bring Hitler to heel.

Hitler, and all credit to him decided he wasn't going to take this lying down. He instructed his secret agencies to assassinate the Rothchilds and cease their assets in preparation for a coming war. And he managed it. He assassinated the entire Austrian branch of the Rothschild family and ceased all their assets. You know whenever you see how Picassos and jewellery are returned to 'Jewish families' after they were taken by Nazi Looters? Well don't be fooled into thinking the average Jew in Germany had a Rembrandt hanging on the wall. Those assets are being returned to the Rothschild family.

Anyway, this assassination made the other Rothschilds very nervous. Unfortunately though, they owned the Bank of England privately. Their family had done so since Nathan Rothschild famously declared, "I care not what puppet sits on the thrown to rule the British Empire. Who ever controls the money supply controls the British empire, and I control the money supply. So the British hatched a deal with the Rothschilds. The British would declare war on Germany in exchange for their sovereignty back. Britain was did so and the war was won by the allies. In a sense the British were fighting for their freedom, but it was freedom from the bank. In 1946 the bank of England was handed over to the government for purchase. Unfortunately the British didn't have enough money after the war to buy back the back, so the Rothschilds were given shares. Effectively they still own that fucking bank today.

If you think for a second Britain went to war for nobel reasons to help the polish, you have no idea what causes wars. The American war of independence was the exact same. The American's wanted their own currency but the Rothschilds wanted them on a debt based currency that pays interest to them at the Bank of America. On that occasion poor Britain which has been used extensively by the Rothschilds as a private army, lost the war and the Bank of America was destroyed. It would take many years and a plot at Jekyll island before they would regain control of the Americas. The Federal reserve act happened and the rest is history. Its no coincidence Britain always sides with America in every conflict. Our central banking systems are owned by the same people.

Anyway, the Rothchilds then used the war to create propaganda to protect themselves from criticism. Words like anti-Semitism were born to stop Jews being criticised. Israel (the Rothschild state) was formed - again no coincidence they get unwavering support from America, the UN was set up so the Rothschilds could more towards world governance and a NWO, a holocaust was created because "Jewish blood must be spilt to create a land for the jews" and the history books were written to cover it all over.

All wars are caused by money. Nothing else. there are no religious wars, no wars about doing the right thing, no wars for freedom. They are all wars about money where the rich and powerful get millions killed in their personal power struggles.

Like Lord Haw Haw says in his final broadcast (listen to the first three minutes), Hitler basically wanted to get Germany back to the way it was before WW I and then he might have been satisfied. But they wouldn't let him, and... you know, maybe they should have continued appeasement a little bit longer. Today almost everyone, like Churchill, say they went on for too long, or rather that it should not have even started, but I say that, since they started it, maybe they didn't keep doing it long enough. Of course, the winners are always right (i.e. Churchill), so today the common superficial truth is just one, that appeasement was foolish. But what if letting Hitler have Poland could have spared the world 50 million deaths? On the other hand, there are also battles for principles, and since he was already killing the handicapped and the Jews, then even triggering a war that caused over 50 million deaths might have made sense, for the sake of saving those persecuted minorities.

Although Joyce was born in the USA, brought up in Ireland and took German nationality on 26 September 1939, he was charged with treason from 3 September 1939 to 2 July 1940, the date his British passport ran out, and sentenced to death. Joyce was confined in a death cell at London’s Wandsworth Prison. In the cell next door was John Amery, the son of a British lord and the man who had tried to form British expatriates and sympathetic British POW’s into a Freicorp to fight on the German side. Joyce was executed five days after Amery on 3 January 1946. He was adamant and defiant to the end. He showed no emotion when confronted by news and scenes from the concentration camps, blaming the deaths on starvation and disease caused by Allied bombing of communication lines. He also scratched a swastika on the wall of his cell whilst awaiting sentence. His last public message reported by the BBC was “In death as in life, I defy the Jews who caused this last war, and I defy the powers of darkness they represent.” He was not yet 40 years old when executed. He was buried in an unmarked grave in the grounds of the prison.

Lord Haw-Haw was the name British listeners gave to William Joyce, a German radio propaganda broadcaster during World War II. Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1906, Joyce moved with his English mother and Irish-American father to England in 1921. He joined the Nazi movement in England in the mid-'30s and fled to Germany just before war broke in 1939. He immediately became a broadcaster for Joseph Goebbel's Propaganda Ministry. His radio program reached England weekly from 1939 to 1945.

On the night of April 30, 1945, a drunken Joyce made his last broadcast from Hamburg as British troops entered the city. With his adopted world crashing down around him, but still committed to the Nazi cause, Joyce rambled on through his farewell speech. In Berlin, Hitler was simultaneously saying good-bye to his entourage in anticipation of ending his life a few hours later.

Captured by the British, Joyce stood trial for treason. The court denied his claim of American citizenship because he held a British passport. He was found guilty and hanged on January 3, 1946.

Drôle de guerre - phoney war - Sitzkrieg

This post will show a few of the events (I will add more as I find time) that took place during the "drôle de guerre", the "phoney war", which followed the September 1st, 1939 invasion of Poland by the Germans (and, two days later, the declaration of war by France and United Kingdom) and lasted more than six months, until May 1940.

During the "phoney war" there were however very little civilian casualties, due to a lack of bombing on civilian land targets (an entirely different story for the ships):

Whether we agree or not with the video, the excerpt from Hitler's speeches (I will look for the exact speeches now) and the editing of the images put together is quite impressive, as far as skills and ability to make a case.

The Laconia incident refers to the controversial events surrounding the sinking and subsequent aborted rescue attempt of a British troopship in the Atlantic Ocean during World War II. On 12 September 1942, RMS Laconia under the command of Capt. The bomber, which had confirmed and reported the U-boat's intentions and the presence of survivors to higher command, was explicitly ordered to attack the ship anyway. The B-24 ended up killing dozens of the Laconia's survivors with bombs and strafing attacks, forcing U-156 to cast their remaining passengers into the sea and crash dive to avoid being destroyed. The pilots of the B-24 inexplicably reported that they had sunk U-156, and were awarded medals for bravery.

I am reading, on page 7, about the two different air raid signals ("fliegeralarm"), one to begin the alarm and one to end it:

I managed to find those same alarms on youtube because I wanted to know what the newspaper description corresponded to in terms of sound:

These things are still working today, having been built from over 70 years ago. In some cases they weren't removed.

The sound does rise up and down, just as they said in the newspaper: "...auf und ab schwellenden heulton...".

What is interesting is that, in the clip below, not only the "alarm" signal but also the "all-clear" signal seems identical to the one used by Germans, described in the newspaper as "langgezogenen gleichbleibenden Heulton ohne Tonfall". Something like "continuous unchanged siren without inflection". It seems exactly the description of the "All Clear" siren by the British.

I suggest a succinct history of this whole period entitled 'Thus Wars Are Made' by Albert Norden, a German Jewish communist historian whose writings may also be found online. Included is the true history of how Germany was divided after the war which is not to be found in western histories.

He is highly critical of West Germany's founding postwar chancellor Conrad Adenauer giving considerable evidence that he continued the policies of the preceding Hitler administration.

Norden wrote a book in the mid-1960's (in German) that exposed that the West German government was run by old Nazis from the Hitler era in which he exposed thousands of names going into detail about them.

His book 'Thus Wars are Made!' (which is in English) was published about 1969 and is the best history of West Germany's and it's early history. Fascist West Germany is modern Germany which ate up East Germany after 1989.

Norden also published a book about Nazi Germany in 1942 while in the US which focused on its funders.

Janine tut so, als würden sich beide schon lange kennen und Pierre, der nicht weiß, dass sie blufft, spielt das Spiel mit. Janine bringt ihn dazu, sich mit ihr zurückzuziehen, geht aber erbost, als Pierre mehrfach beteuert, er kenne keine Charlotte. Pierre hat am Abend einige Stücke seiner Revue gespielt und Janine erkennt, dass sie mit diesen Stücken ihren Durchbruch als Revuestar feiern könnte. Als René als vermeintlicher Pierre vom Moulin Bleu aufgefordert wird, seine Revue auch zu dirigieren, tauschen René und Pierre wieder ihre Rollen. Pierre erscheint im Revuetheater und wird prompt von Yvette umgarnt, die ihm das Versprechen abnimmt, statt Zweitbesetzung der Hauptrolle nun der eigentliche Star zu werden. Janine wird nun als zweite Besetzung der Hauptrolle verpflichtet und ist empört. René wiederum weiß, dass er einen Fehler begangen hat und engagiert für den Premierenabend mehrere Dutzend Claqueure, die Yvette bei ihrem Auftrag ausbuhen sollen. Alle warten nur auf sein Zeichen, um es ihm nachzumachen. Am Abend der Premiere erscheint kurz vor Beginnt des Stücks Janine auf der Bühne und weigert sich, zu gehen. Sie will die einst versprochene Hauptrolle spielen und beschwert sich lauthals über die Machenschaften von Yvonne. René hört sie hinter der Bühne und ruft halblaut „Hallo Janine“. Die Claqueure machen es ihm prompt nach und bald stimmt das ganze Publikum ein. Hinter der Bühne wird nun eilig Janine als Hauptdarstellerin hergerichtet und glänzt anschließend in der Revue als Tänzerin und Sängerin. Nach der Vorstellung treffen sich René und Janine in der Garderobe wieder und fallen sich verliebt in die Arme.
